Hydrangea Cityline Vienna
Click on my picture to purchase me for your garden Categories: Shrub PP#10,930 | DescriptionCultivar name: 'Vienna Rawi.'The natural dwarf habit of this lovely Bigleaf Hydrangea from Germany is well-branched and dense, with far more flowering stems than most others. Small enough for containers or any tight spot, Cityline? Vienna grabs the eye with giant pink or blue blooms, each starred with a cream-colored center that gradually matures to solid pink or blue. Showy and unusual! Just 2 to 3 feet high and wide, this shrub offers large, neatly serrated leaves of fresh spring green that keep their clean look from spring till frost. The flowers are unusually large in proportion to the size of the plant, which makes them look positively huge. Perfect for cutting for fresh or dried arrangements, they are an awe-inspiring sight on the plant, held upright (no flopping!) on very strong, thick bloom stems. Expect them to begin in late spring and continue into summer. The most interesting feature of Vienna is its flower color. The blooms will be pink or blue, depending on the pH of your soil, but the center of each flower opens a bright cream color, then gradually matures to pink or blue. Appreciates protection from harsh afternoon sun, and if you plant it beneath deciduous trees, check the first year to make sure it isn't getting too much sunlight during the winter months. Other than this, it is carefree and easy, never needing a trim to keep its naturally dwarf form. |
