Clematis 'Betty Corning'
Click on my picture to purchase me for your garden Categories: Vine | Description"Fragrant, Late-Blooming. This viticella type tolerates more drought and shade than others. Begins the bloom season in midsummer with dozens upon dozens of smoky-blue, bell-shaped blooms about 1 1/2 inches across. Sweetly fragrant, they dangle from trellises, arbors, and pergolas, or peek through the branches of open-habit shrubs, wind their way through fences and other vertical supports. Very heavy-blooming through early fall. This climbing plant reaches 6 to 8 feet high, though it will remain somewhat smaller if grown in a container. It is among the most fragrant of Clematis, and its bloom power and sweet scent made it the recipient of a Gold Medal from the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society. Like most Clematis, it likes cool roots and warm tops, so mulch around its base very heavily and let it grow up in full sun or part shade. Somewhat drought-tolerant, it is a very tenacious and dependable Clematis. Pruning Group 3. |
