First layout the area  to your desired shape, Make sure the liner you order will fit the entire shape and 7 lf of extra in both directions.

Excavate the pond leaving some deep areas and planting shelves. The minimum depth for Koi is 18". Check your local codes for fencing requirements. 

First layer of excavation to plant shelf depth. Usually 12 to 14".

Mark out the areas of the shelves and excavate the interior portions. Use the excavated soil to form a mound for the waterfall or stream.

Complete pond excavation. Note the shelving areas on both sides. One shelf is 3" deeper than the other.

Lay the liner across the entire surface area. Note the excess along the sides. This will be trimmed after the rock has been installed.

Excavate the area for the skimmer, level, and install the liner to the face plate. Make sure to use silicone behind the liner and screw the face plate tightly.

Once the biofilter is installed connect the piping to the bulkhead fitting and to the pump in the skimmer.

Once the liner, skimmer, and biofilter are connected to the liner. Its time to place rock .

Rocks and boulders placed in a fashion that looks natural will give you the best results.

Building a falls with small boulders.

After the boulders for the falls are set, use foam to fill in the gaps between the rock and liner to force the water to flow over the surface. Without using foam water will run below the boulders.

Line the plant shelves with rock and boulders approximately 3" above the surface to hold small gravel.

Install gravel 2 to 3" deep in the plant shelves.

Continue adding rock and boulders until all sides and surfaces are covered.

Finished look of the boulder placement.

Rinse all the rock and drain the dirty water.

Fill the pond and enjoy the beauty.
